When have you not leaned in to your fear, not taken that step forward to achieve all that you have always wanted.
One day you were walking along, thinking of how you never seem to have enough money to do any of the things that you want. Everything you tried to get to where you wanted to be always fell short. What made this even more frustrating was that even when you thought you were about to succeed, about to achieve your goal, something happened or you changed your path and everything just slipped through your fingers. It was there, you could see the finish line. Something inside you said that it was too hard hard or that you were not worthy, something was limiting your ability to move forward towards your goal… pause.
It was at that point of frustration within your self, you stumbled across a cave. The cave was dark and looked scary and you were so curious as to what was inside. You fumbled in your pocket knowing that you had your phone and therefore a torch to explore the cave. As you went to step in to explore what the cave had behind its veil of darkness, you noticed it. You stopped dead in your tracks as fear gripped you.
Carved in the rock at the peak of the caves entrance was a single silhouette of a spider. Just seeing the outline of a spider was enough for you to break into a sweat and to seize you up. Unable to step forward with fear of what now might be in the cave. Fear of the unknown. The unconscious mind telling you to run from here. Protect yourself.
See, as a child when you were just 6 years old, you had encountered a spider. One night you got up and went to the kitchen as you were hungry. It was dark but there was enough light coming from the lounge room so that you could see where you were going. You knew there were your favorite thing in the world, cookies, in the pantry. You were salivating thinking of the cookies. You just had to get to the pantry in order to get what you wanted. As you stepped into the pantry, from the frame above something dropped on you. You jumped back in fear, not knowing what it was. Your heart was racing as you looked down on your hand and saw the biggest Huntsman spider you have ever seen. Shit, It was on your hand. You screamed and flicked it away. Crying you run away, back to your bedroom, scared, alone and hungry. You jump into your bed and pull the covers up over your head. You are now back in your safe place and even though you didn’t get your cookie, you were safe.
The unconscious mind stored that memory to keep you safe. To keep you out of danger. Stay in your box, your safe place and even if you didn’t achieve your goal, you are safe.
You run from the cave, the image of a spider was enough to propel you away. All thoughts of entering the cave had vanished. Even though you had a torch, the tools needed to enter and see in the cave, you just were not able to lean in and explore what the cave had to offer.
What you didn’t know, was that in that cave, just around the first bend, lay an abandoned treasure chest. If you had of just walked in and opened the lid to that chest you would have seen gold and jewels beyond your wildest dreams. Enough to fulfill every desire you had ever wanted. But alas, the treasure and all its wealth sits untouched. It’s waiting for some one to just step up and find it.
What box of treasure have you moved away from in your life because of a limiting belief or fear.
I wonder what would happen if you leaned in, stepped forward and put trust in yourself.
